How this app protects you

The Adolescent Education Program (AEP) app is published by Girl Up Initiative, a non profit organisation registered in Uganda, working to advance the rights, health, and leadership of adolescent girls and boys. Contact: info@girlupuganda.org.

The app is designed for adolescents ages 10 to 19, together with facilitators, teachers, and guardians who support them. Users younger than 10 are asked to stop and to explore the app with a parent, guardian, or teacher. Facilitators aged 20 and above may continue in facilitator mode.

• Your chosen age band, program (Girls, Boys, or Both), and district.
• Anonymous progress counts, such as sessions completed and games played.
• An anonymous device identifier used only to count returning visits on this phone.

All of the above is stored only on your device using the browser's local storage. It is never sent to Girl Up Initiative or to any third party server.

• Your name, phone number, email address, national ID, or photo.
• Your GPS location, IP address, or contacts.
• Answers you type into the anonymous question box are stored only on this phone.

This app is designed to comply with:

• The Uganda Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 and the Data Protection and Privacy Regulations, 2021, including the rules on the processing of children's data.
• The Uganda Children (Amendment) Act, 2016, the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, and national child safeguarding standards.
• The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, in particular Articles 3, 12, 16, 17, and 19.
• The African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
• International good practice for children's online safety, informed by the UNICEF Policy Guidance on AI for Children and the UNESCO International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education.
• Where applicable to visitors from other regions, the principles of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code.

Because no personal data leaves your device, the app has no cross border data transfer. If Girl Up Initiative ever introduces a feature that requires uploading personal data, we will ask for informed consent (and parental or guardian consent for children under 18) before enabling it, in line with the Uganda Data Protection and Privacy Act.

Content in this app is drawn from the Girl Up Initiative facilitator manuals and reviewed against international adolescent health and safeguarding standards. The app does not contain sexually explicit material, does not allow strangers to contact users, and does not display advertising. • Access and review: everything the app stores about you sits inside your phone's browser storage and you can view it in your browser settings.
• Erasure: tap the "Reset the setup screen" button on the Help page, or clear this site's data in your browser, to delete everything the app has saved.
• Complaint: if you believe your rights have been violated, you may contact the Personal Data Protection Office of Uganda (pdpo.go.ug) or write to us at info@girlupuganda.org.

The app is delivered over HTTPS. Because personal data stays on your device, please protect your device with a lock code and do not share it with people you do not trust. If you install the app on a shared phone, use the reset option before handing the phone back.

The app can be opened from anywhere in the world. Users outside Uganda are responsible for complying with the laws of the country where they are located. The Adolescent Education Program is educational content and is not a substitute for professional medical, legal, or psychological advice. In case of an emergency, always contact local authorities. This notice is governed by the laws of the Republic of Uganda; matters that cross national borders are handled in accordance with applicable international conventions and, where relevant, cooperation with INTERPOL through the Uganda Police Force.

Girl Up Initiative provides this app in good faith to advance adolescent education and rights. To the fullest extent permitted by Ugandan and international law, Girl Up Initiative is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of this app. This does not limit any right that cannot be limited by law.

We may update this notice to reflect changes in law or in the app. The date at the top of this page will change when we do. Please review it from time to time.
